To make things more ergonomic and add some much-needed storage, I’m building a custom DIY laundry pedestal (or riser) for our washer and dryer. In this video, I take you through the entire process of building a heavy-duty, budget-friendly stand using basic construction lumber and simple tools. Whether you have a bad back or just want a place to tuck away laundry baskets, this project is a total game-changer for the utility room. In this episode, you’ll see: The Design Criteria: How to build it strong, affordable, and "future-proof." The Build Process: Using a Kreg Pocket Hole Jig to create a rock-solid double-thick top. Cold Weather Woodworking: Cutting lumber in the snow and assembling on the kitchen island (shhh, don't tell Angela!). The "Secret Weapon": Using a low-profile dryer vent adapter to fit the machine in a tight space. The Controversy: Why we decided to screw the stand directly into our brand-new floors for maximum stability. Tools & Materials Used: (3) 2x4x8 Boards (2) 1x6x8 Boards Kreg Pocket Hole Jig & 1 1/4" Screws Wood Glue Low-Profile Dryer Duct Adapter Heavy Duty Metal Shelf Brackets (for extra bracing) While there are fancy commercial pedestals out there, building it ourselves saved us money and allowed us to customize the height perfectly for my back and our specific baskets. 💬 Question for you: Would you have the guts to screw a DIY project into your brand-new flooring, or would you have tried to find another way to stop the "washer shakes"?
