Last year I was lucky enough to be offered the ride on the lovely Marge, with the aim of trying to qualify for Badminton Grassroots. Amazingly, we actually managed to do it, which still feels slightly surreal to say out loud. After the season finished, Marge went back home to Scotland to have a well deserved winter with her owner Hannah. She’s been having a proper holiday, being spoiled, and enjoying life outside of competition mode. But now it’s time for the next chapter. In this video we head to Somerford Park to reunite and officially hand over the lovely Marge again, bringing her back to my yard so we can start preparing for Badminton. It was so nice to see her, and slightly nerve wracking climbing back on for my first ride after all these months. There’s something about that first ride back on a horse you haven’t sat on in a while. You remember what they feel like, but you also don’t quite know what to expect. She felt amazing, and it made everything feel very real. Now the focus shifts to building a proper training plan, getting her fit, sharp, and confident, and making sure we give ourselves the best possible chance when the big day comes around.
