When we bought this place, we could see that underneath the concrete render there was a beautiful old cottage we wanted to bring back to life. It had been left derelict for over two years. But what you don’t see on camera is the reality of heritage home renovation. The hidden damp & hard concrete mortar that takes DAYS to remove. A decades of “quick fixes” that have to be carefully undone before you can even think about progress. This isn’t a glossy makeover. It’s a full structural restoration. We’re learning traditional building methods, working with breathable materials, restoring original features, repointing stone by hand, repairing instead of replacing — all while trying to modernise a 200-year-old cottage into a sustainable, energy-efficient home. It’s slow renovation. It’s conservation over demolition. It’s DIY house restoration with a lot of trial and error.
