The spirit of Trinidad & Tobago Carnival is ubiquitous in the celebration. We refer to it from music to marketing to encapsulate a feeling we might be familiar with but oftentimes lack the vocabulary to fully describe. To begin to understand the spirit, the feeling, the movement, the imagery, the artistic expression, the sound, we have to connect to the origins and history of carnival. Kambule is that connection to our past. It is much more than a play, much more than a performance. It is an immersive ritual that takes place in the wee hours on carnival Friday that marks the start of the five day celebration that connects us directly to the past.
