According to authorities, the officer instructed the man to dispose of the drink or face arrest. Instead of pouring it out himself, the man handed the bottle to the officer and turned as if to leave. Police say the situation escalated at that moment, alleging the man threw the bottle’s cork at the officer, prompting officers to move in and detain him. Video released later shows the officer taking the man to the ground as additional officers arrived to assist. Once on the pavement, the man was placed in handcuffs, but the confrontation did not end there. Officials say the suspect continued to resist and grabbed at an officer, while bystander footage appears to show him already restrained when strikes were delivered. Officers also deployed a Taser during the struggle, according to reports.
