Video Description
We made this fun bag using two drying mats I picked up at HomeGoods, and the inspiration actually came from a creator named Amanda on TikTok called YBR Embroidery Studio https://www.tiktok.com/@ybr.shop?is_from_webapp=1&sender_device=pc
She’s also here on YouTube @YBREmbroiderystudio and let me tell you… she knows what she’s doing.
Now I’ll be honest, I made a few mistakes along the way. But sometimes that’s the best way to learn, right? After figuring out what not to do, I ended up with a really cute bag that I even took with me on my cruise.
So in this tutorial I’m going to show you what didn’t work, what does work, and how to turn these simple mats into a fun bag. Then we’ll finish it off with bows and a little bling because you know I can’t leave well enough alone.
If you love a project that’s creative, a little different, and honestly pretty addictive… you’re going to love this one.
Supplies Used In This Project
Here’s what I used to make this fun bag so you can recreate it yourself.
• Laura Ashley dish drying mats – I found mine at HomeGoods and they came in a two-pack.
• Strap material – I purchased the webbing for the straps at Hobby Lobby. You can buy it by the yard.
• Heavy-duty thread – this helps the bag hold up much better when sewing thicker layers.
• Ribbon – for adding those fun decorative touches.
• Jewelry pieces, baubles, and charms – check Hobby Lobby or your local craft store. This is where you can really make your bag unique.
• Good sewing scissors – always helpful when cutting thicker materials.
• Jewelry-making kit – a basic starter kit works great for attaching charms and embellishments.
• Sewing machine – this project definitely needs one.
This project is one of those where you can really have fun with the details, so don’t be afraid to add bows, bling, or anything that fits your style.
