How to open a locked door fast in an emergency with no damage. If you have a faulty lock, stuck door or in an emergency this can save you time, money and lives. Installing a lift off hinge to a door will allow you to open a door without using the handle or lock. Rather than having a standard butt hinge which has a pin right through, lift off hinges allow you to simply lift the door off the hinges even with the door closed from the inside or outside of the door. This was introduced into the Australian building code for bathrooms that have a pan within 1.2m of a inward swinging door to allow emergency services to have quick access in case someone is collapsed or passed out and wedged between the toilet pan and door.
