TSO Narrow Rip Pro System
Video Description
This video is about how a great tool gets even better—and how the Smart-Fam plays a role in that. In my deep-dive introduction and review of the TSO Products Narrow Rip Pro system, I shared why this setup has completely replaced the table saw for ripping sheet goods in my shop. From wide rips down to very narrow ones, the accuracy, cleanliness, and ergonomics are simply superior. During that review, I also shared two improvement opportunities to refine an already excellent tool for production-style workflows:
1. A scale consideration for narrow ripping
2. An idea around guide rail support when the rail sits far off the material
Both are about the same thing: reducing friction in real-world use and making a great system even more intuitive, stable, and production-ready.
After that video went live, Matthew from Three Peaks Construction reached out with a short email and one photo.
That photo showed a beautifully simple insight.
Matthew realized that by repositioning the existing Guide Rail Supports to the opposite side of the rail, the system becomes naturally stable for narrow rips—without adding parts, modifying anything, or changing how the rest of the system works.
The rail is fully supported.Nothing interferes with adjusting the cut width. The setup stays calibrated and repeatable.
It’s one of those ideas that feels obvious after you see it.
In this video, I:
Revisit why track saw + parallel guides outperform any table saw for plywood ripping
Share both refinement ideas I originally discussed
Walk through Matthew’s guide rail support insight in detail
Show how it fits seamlessly into the existing TSO ecosystem
Highlight why Smart-Fam thinking like this benefits everyone
If you work with sheet goods and already use a track saw system, this is a great example of how small insights can make daily work smoother, more ergonomic, and more repeatable.
Please take a moment to thank Matthew in the comments. Study the photo he sent—there’s a lot of thoughtful craftsmanship there. And if you’d like to see me visit his shop and film the setup in action, let him know.
