Video Description
Most people think fascia is just for looks. On this deck, it needs to solve three problems: covering a 16.5" beam, coupling it with an 11.5" joist, and keeping water out while making it all look consistent. Here's how we built a quad step fascia using four pieces to get it done.
In this video we walk through the full process:
-Why we started fascia before the deck boards
-How we extended the joist to match the beam plane using Fasten Master Versa Lok screws
-Waterproof membrane tape to protect the framing
-Folded corners to manage expansion and contraction
-The four-layer fascia stack: multi-width board, Azek 1x6, ripped stair riser, and a 3.5" cap to cover deck board end grain
-Stainless steel screws with Cortex plugs for a seamless finish
-Why we chose this method over a single wide PVC board
