While this is important, it’s also secondary to good programming. If you aren’t making any progress in your training, there’s a very high chance it’s because you’re either not training hard enough OR not recovering enough. In other words: it comes down to poor programming. In fact, you can probably make any set of exercises work for you as long as you’re programming them correctly. Ultimately, this comes down to balancing frequency, intensity, and volume. As long as you get these things correct (balanced), you can see yourself grow. BUT the precise weighting for each of these factors will depend on the individual, their goals, and their preferences. In this video, I discuss the importance of programming, how to make it work for you, and where to start with some basic ideas. In future, I may explore progressive overload - especially as it relates to calisthenics and functional exercises. But, of course, ALL of this is dependent on training in such a way as to feel a proper stimulus in the target muscles, each time. Good luck!
