I think it's safe to say these two countries haven't always had the best of relations. But for better or worse, I was an American on a trip through the Middle East, and I had always wanted to see Iraq. That's no exaggeration. As a polyglot of sorts, Arabic was the first language I ever studied. During the height of the fighting during the Iraq War, I dreamed of a chance to the see the country and what it was really like. As ISIS ravaged the nation, I longed to see the once cosmopolitan city of Mosul. Reading about the horrific genocide the Yazidis endured, the people known as the "devil worshipers", it strengthened my resolve even further to see this complicated nation. And that's no exaggeration at all. I know we're supposed to write some romanticized bs here in the description to get you to watch, but this time it's no joke. Iraq was a milestone for me.
