When a Loved One is Dying

Published: March 22, 2026
Video Description
There’s a specific skin change I’ve seen in hospice that can signal someone is very close to death. It’s called a Kennedy ulcer, and it’s often misunderstood.
In this video, I walk you through what a Kennedy ulcer actually is, how it looks, and why it’s different from a typical pressure sore. The key difference is how quickly it appears. This can develop within hours, not weeks, and it’s tied to the body shutting down and redirecting blood flow to vital organs.
I also explain why this does not mean neglect, even though it can look severe. These changes are often part of the natural dying process.
When dealing with any medically related events or medical emergencies, please communicate with your primary health care provider.
