After months of overlanding across Europe, we finally made it back to our off-grid island cabin in Northern Ontario… but our journey wasn’t over yet. Our truck had just arrived in Halifax after crossing the Atlantic from England, and we had a narrow window to fly out, clear customs, and drive it over 2,000 km back home—before powerful spring storms shut down the highways and the thaw cut off access to the island. With heavy snow, freezing rain, and near whiteout conditions chasing us across eastern Canada, this turned into a race against time. From de-icing planes and stormy highways… to snow-covered roads in New Brunswick and Quebec… and finally a white-knuckle push back to the marina—this was one of the most challenging legs of our journey. And even after all that… we still had to make it across the frozen lake. Back at the cabin, winter isn’t quite finished yet. But spring is coming—and with it, a whole new chapter.
