From video: This Hit Us Hard | Storms, Floods & Hard Lessons on the Road
Published: February 8, 2026

Video Description

A powerful wind and rain storm hits us along the southern coast of Spain, slamming into our overland truck broadside in the middle of the night and waking us out of bed. As the weather intensifies, we begin lowering the pop-up roof on our Rossmönster to protect it from the wind — and halfway down, the system initiates a safety shutdown. At the time, we don’t fully understand what’s happening. With low batteries from sitting still too long and the storm continuing to build, stress levels rise as we work through the situation. Using our Land Rover to help bring power back to the truck, we begin recharging the house batteries and digging into the manual to understand what the system is telling us. With a step-by-step reset and a clearer understanding of how the built-in safety systems are designed to protect the truck, everything comes back online exactly as it should. The roof lowers safely, the batteries recover, and we’re reminded why redundancy and protective systems matter so much in long-term overland travel. Once the storm eases, we take a break from repairs and walk across the border into Gibraltar — getting a haircut, stopping by the Land Rover dealership to look for Defender parts, and enjoying classic British fish and chips at Lord Nelson’s Pub. But the weather isn’t finished yet. Another major wind and rain storm moves in, shutting down ferry routes and delaying our planned crossing to Morocco. With travel on hold, we hunker down inside the truck and wait it out. This episode is a reminder that overlanding isn’t just about destinations — it’s about learning, adapting, and realizing that delays, weather, and unexpected pauses aren’t setbacks at all. They’re part of the journey. 👇 Subscribe for weekly episodes of real-time overland adventure. @EpicFamilyRoadTrip ❤️ Thank you to our Patreon family—your support makes this journey possible. 🔗 Join here: https://bit.ly/2BLoYNb ☕ Drink EFRT Coffee: www.efrtcoffee.com 👕 Wear EFRT Gear: www.efrtstore.com ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 🚐 Friends of EFRT: ROSSMÖNSTER BAJA – https://bit.ly/TheBAJA GLOBAL RESCUE – https://bit.ly/GR-EFRT ONX OFFROAD – https://bit.ly/ONXoffroad MIDLAND RADIO – https://bit.ly/MIDLAND_EFRT OK4WD – https://bit.ly/OK4WD_EFRT ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 📺 More EFRT Content: Peter Jr's Channel: https://www.youtube.com/@UCI3yQR-jkgoQLARqyZTi2MQ Dan's Channel: https://youtube.com/@UC3ZVMlcik4Ahv12FlY3UPAA Caroline & Matt: https://www.youtube.com/@CarolinevSKimberly ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 🧰 Gear & Affiliates: • Harvest Right Freeze Dryers: https://bit.ly/3VTWYRG • Fjällräven Clothing: https://bit.ly/Fjallraven_EFRT • DJI Drones + Power: https://bit.ly/DRONES_EFRT • Lodge Cast Iron: https://cabelas.xhuc.net/EFRT • 67 Designs Mounts: http://www.67d.com/epic • KC Hilites — Use code "EPIC FAMILY": http://www.kchilites.com • Striker Flotation Gear: https://bit.ly/Striker_EFRT ━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━ 🔖 Hashtags #overlandtravel #truckcamperlife #campershipping #emptynestadventures #coasttocoast #europetravelprep #fulltimerv #adventureawaits #OverlandingEurope #LakeCamping #EFRT
