The La-7 is a World War II, Soviet, single-engine piston fighter that was developed by the Semyon Lavochkin design bureau. It was an evolution of the La-5 series of Soviet fighters that improved the design in significant ways. Entering service in 1944, the La-7 became one of, if not the most effective and refined Soviet fighters on the Eastern Front. Featuring improved aerodynamics, reduced weight, and enhanced engine cooling, the La-7 boasted significantly increased speed and climb performance. Armed with powerful 20 mm cannons, it proved highly capable against contemporary German fighters like the Messerschmitt Bf 109 and Focke-Wulf Fw 190.
