Over the past few months, I have completely renovated the kitchen in the fixer-upper home I purchased. The good news is that I likely saved $30,000 + by performing all of the labor myself. The bad news is that it was a TON of work!
In this video, I am going to show the entire DIY kitchen remodel process in a timelapse so that you can see exactly what went into this renovation!
If you want to learn how to do any of the projects shown in this video (e.g. installing tile floors, hanging kitchen cabinets, etc.), check out my detailed instructional videos below:

A DIY Kitchen Remodel really only consists of 5 main "Projects" that are shown in the video and explained below:
1. Demolition
Demolition is the first part of the kitchen remodel process. You have to get rid of the "old" to make room for the "new". Consider renting a dumpster for all of the debris.
2. Flooring
Tile is still the most common kitchen flooring option and it is what I installed in my kitchen. Installing tile floor is not difficult, but it does involve quite a few steps (uncoupling membrane installation, thin set mortar application, tile setting, grouting, etc.)
3. Cabinets
Installing the cabinets is likely one of the most DIY friendly parts of the entire kitchen renovation process. Ensure that all of the cabinets are installed level and plumb.
4. Countertops
Countertops are very difficult to install yourself unless you go with a DIY-friendly countertop option like laminate or concrete. Since DIY-friendly countertops will likely not add any value to your home, I recommend that you have legitimate counters (like Quartz or Marble) installed by a countertop supplier who can cut and fabricate these materials. This was the only part of the kitchen remodel that I did not DIY.
5. Miscellaneous (Fixtures, Lighting, etc)
Unfortunately, there are many miscellaneous projects associated with a kitchen renovation. Some of these projects include installing the sink and garbage disposal, installing new lighting, hooking up the appliances, installing trim and crown molding, etc.
Overall, a kitchen renovation is intermediate to advanced DIY project, but I think many homeowners can successfully tackle it themselves!
Let me know what you think of the entire kitchen remodel!
