This is my 2008 Lexus IS F — one of my absolute favorite cars I own.
400 horsepower. 5.0L V8. 8-speed automatic. Six-piston Brembos. A true sleeper sports sedan built by a bunch of skunkworks engineers who decided, “Let’s put a giant V8 in a small luxury sedan and see what happens.”
And then I killed it.
Back in 2023, a voltage surge wiped out multiple ECUs in this car. And the worst part? It was my fault. I knew the battery was bad. I drove it anyway. I tried to be stubborn about a warranty.
Modern cars don’t forgive stubborn.
What followed was two years of frustration:
• Blown power source ECUs
• Electrical gremlins
• Fuel pressure sensor issues
• The infamous UR V8 valley plate leak
• Broken direct injectors
• 16 injectors total (because of course there are 16)
• And about $1,800 in parts
Today, we tear back into the Lexus IS F and try to bring it back to life. New injectors. New connectors. Fresh fuel sensor. Resealed valley plate. Alternator scavenger hunt. And one final moment of truth when we reconnect the battery and hit the key.
Will it run?
Or did I permanently brick one of my favorite cars?
This episode is about more than just fixing a Lexus. It’s about not letting frustration win. It’s about projects that snowball. It’s about walking away… and eventually coming back.
And yes… it finally runs again.
Now the question is — do we save the paint? Budget respray? Vinyl wrap? Full rip-down?
Let me know what you’d do.
I’m Jared, and this is The Questionable Garage — where we make questionable choices… but maybe not questionable battery decisions.
