A package shows up from Michigan addressed to “212.” That alone is strange.
What’s inside the letter? That’s where things get… interesting.
Welcome back to the EV1 restoration. We’re not at The Questionable Garage this time — we’re back with V212, and this short work trip turned into a major turning point. The big question isn’t just how far we take the teardown… it’s whether this letter changes anything about what happens next.
In this episode, we make some tough calls. The drive unit comes out. Prototype-era details get carefully preserved. Every bolt gets cataloged, cleaned, and tracked. We dive deep into the balance between doing no harm and honoring the original intent of a car that was never meant to survive this long. There’s science experiments, spreadsheets, fragile glass, and more than a few moments where going slow is the only right answer.
We also take a field trip to study a better-preserved EV1 shell, giving us critical reference points for what this car should look like when it’s done right. With that knowledge in hand, V212 is finally loaded up and sent off for its long-overdue spa day — a step that’s going to define the next phase of this restoration.
So… does the letter change anything?
Maybe. Maybe not. But it definitely means someone is paying attention.
