We drove to Sapporo, one of Japan's Northern city located on Hokkaido island to experience what this country has to offer during the winter season and let us tell you, THEY GET A LOT OF SNOW!!! So we took a ferry with our campervan from Aomori to Hakodate. This was a 3 and a half hour journey and the Sea of Japan was very choppy to say the least. We decided to get a room on the ship which was very nice as we were overdue for a shower. The nest morning, we drove to Teine Highlands Ski Center in Sapporo, the same ski resort that hosted the winter Olympics of 1972. This is an incredible ski station with different slopes ranging from beginner to advance skiers. We spent all day going up on the chairlift and down mountain. It was a blast. Sapporo city itself is one of the largest in Japan and is worth visiting while in the northern part of the country. We started with Nijo market which has been around for over a century. This street market specialize in seafood mainly king crab and oysters. If seafood markets are not for you, they also have ice cream. One of the most famous place to visit in Sapporo is the underground city. With over 2km of underground tunnels, this is a wonderful place to escape the cold during the winter months and ideal to shop and eat in Pole Town. Finally, drinking a Sapporo in Sapporo has always been on my travel bucket list so we had to visit the Sapporo beer museum with a tasting of course.
