Even though the country didn't really have any snow during our time there, as soon as we approached the Aomori region, things changed really fast. The landscape went quickly from no snow to metres of snow everywhere. Simply walking around the city was unreal just like their famous apple pies made with Fuji apples. The snow banks taller than us, the over 1 metre of snow on every roof and snow removal vehicles everywhere was so impressive to see. But where it truly became breathtaking was around the Hakkoda Mountains. After a quick ride up the Mt Hakkoda Ropeway we found the famous snow coated trees also often referred to juhyo or snow monsters. One of the most beautiful sighting we have ever seen in our travels.
