Acetone

I almost walked past this little pine desk at the thrift store, but its simple handmade charm made me bring it home. It’s not antique or valuable but pieces like this still deserve a second life. Refinishing pine can be tricky because it absorbs stain unevenly, and this project definitely put that to the test. My first paint wash experiment went completely wrong, which meant sanding everything back and trying a different approach. In the end, a darker water based stain and a custom tinted topcoat transformed this basic pine desk into a rich chocolate brown piece with a much more classic look. Sometimes refinishing furniture is less about the perfect plan and more about experimenting until you get the result you want.
