With uneven stone walls, exposed rock, and curved surfaces throughout the mill, baseboards just didn’t make sense. Instead, we commit to carefully painting the bottoms of every wall — across three different paint colors — and hope we don’t regret it. Outside, our carpenter finishes restoring the original handmade wooden shutters, bringing them back to life with oil and repairs before attempting installation between rain showers. Inside, the grand staircase continues to take shape as self-leveling cement is poured to prepare for the oak stair treads. We also tackle bathroom waterproofing (“tanking”), debate the age-old renovation question — paint first or tile first — and slowly begin checking long-awaited items off our renovation list: ceilings painted, walls finished, and momentum finally building again. This episode is about progress, patience, problem-solving, and the quiet relief that comes from finally finishing what we started — even if tiles are still keeping us on our toes.
