Inside, Drew and Mario begin preparing the stairs for custom oak bullnose edges — cutting precise notches, taping off freshly painted rooms, and creating what can only be described as a full-blown dust storm. As the mill continues to transform, it’s hard not to reflect on how far this space has come. Once damp, dark, and growing mushrooms, the upper house now feels dry, fresh, and truly livable — with just a few final steps remaining before full functionality. To balance the hard work, we host our first-ever annual river duck race!! 😂 Sending rubber ducks down our rushing river and inviting you to vote on the winner. Chaos, laughter, lost ducks, and lessons learned (nets next year!) make this one of our favorite lighthearted moments yet. We also share a huge win: finding our dream oven on Facebook Marketplace for a fraction of the retail price — a purchase that finally allows us to lock in our kitchen layout and move forward with ideas for countertops and cabinetry. From measuring propane lines to planning future systems, every decision now builds toward real daily life inside the mill. After days of work, we step away from the project to hike through the Algarve mountains, wait out a passing storm, and witness a rare flowing waterfall — a reminder of why patience, perseverance, and trust in the process matter just as much as progress.
