Fresh paint transforms the interior, rooms feel brighter and bigger, and for the first time, the watermill truly starts to feel like a home. Outside, we receive our largest delivery yet — six pallets of tile, waterproofing materials, grout, and adhesive — marking the next chapter in our renovation journey. These tiles will soon line our floors, stairs, turret walls, and bathroom, bringing warmth, durability, and cohesion to the entire house. Inside the mill, excavation continues around the original millstone as we carefully expose the historic mechanism beneath it. Rather than covering it up, we make the decision to preserve and showcase this piece of history with glass and lighting — honoring the heart of the watermill while adapting it for modern living. We also tackle the less glamorous but essential details: moisture management, window protection, plaster drying, tape removal, drainage awareness, and airflow — all crucial when restoring an ancient stone structure in Portugal’s humid winter climate. This episode is about big deliveries, small decisions, family teamwork, and respecting the past while building our future.
