This mysterious mechanism was used centuries ago to grind grain for the local village — and today we're carefully bringing it back to life as the centerpiece of our future home. In this episode of our abandoned home renovation, Drew and Mario begin cleaning and restoring the incredible historic machinery that powered the mill. Layer by layer we remove rust, clean the old metal components, and uncover fascinating clues about how the mill once operated — including a later diesel engine conversion that kept the mill running decades after the water system stopped working. As part of our restoration plan, this historic feature will soon sit beneath a glass floor, allowing us to see the original mechanisms that once powered the mill while turning the space above into a unique centerpiece table in our living area. Alongside the restoration, we continue progress on other areas of the home including waterproofing our future turret bathroom and preparing the main living space for tiling as we get closer to finally living inside the mill after three years of renovation.
