We're exploring ways to create your own palettes and how to work with prebuilt themed sets like the John Blanche Masterclass Sets Volume 3 and 4 by The Army Painter. Using a limited color palette is one of the most powerful — and most overlooked — skills in miniature painting. In this video, I show why fewer paints often lead to better miniatures, stronger color harmony, and faster improvement than buying more tools, gadgets, or premixed colors. After more than 25 years of miniature painting, working with limited palettes had the biggest impact on my results. It forces deliberate color choices, improves color mixing, and teaches you how saturation, value, and temperature actually work — instead of relying on hundreds of paints to do the thinking for you. In this tutorial and painting challenge, I use the John Blanche Masterclass Volume 3 set from Army Painter to paint a miniature using an extremely restricted gamut.
