So in this video, I break down exactly why my original take on the AR-15 vs M4 debate was correct, why the attempted correction completely falls apart, and how this kind of confusion is exactly what both anti-gun activists and careless gun owners rely on to muddy the conversation around the Second Amendment. (NOSLER -- official ammunition partner) The original issue started with testimony supporting House Bill 3655, where a veteran claimed that the AR-15 is more powerful than the standard military issue M4 assault rifle. I explained why that claim was factually wrong. Then I got an email accusing me of spreading “two falsehoods” — first, that the AR-15 is semiautomatic only, and second, that civilians are restricted from getting an M4. This video answers both of those claims directly. I walk through the difference between a modern civilian AR-15 and early military prototypes like the Colt AR-15 Model 601, why the existence of a 1962 select-fire rifle does not change what the AR-15 is in today’s political and legal debate, and why people keep using historical technicalities to confuse a very simple issue. I also explain the legal reality behind FFLs, Class III SOTs, dealer samples, the Hughes Amendment, and why the M4 was never part of the transferable civilian machine gun registry in the first place. More importantly, this video gets into the bigger problem: using emotional testimony, military service, or partial research as a substitute for factual accuracy. Respect for a veteran’s trauma is real. But trauma does not make a bad argument true, and veteran status does not override firearm history, gun law, or basic logic.
