You know the CAR MARKET has FLIPPED when Toyota and Honda get BEAT by THESE brands! Mazda and Subaru!!
In this video, I talk through the following points:
MAZDA
- Mazda 410K sales in 2025
- 90% of all sales were SUVs
- CX-5 accounting for 136K units
- CX-50 accounting for 110K units
- CX50 sales are up 35% year over year and they’re continuing to thrive!
- Many people are choosing the Mazda CX50 and CX5 over the Toyota RAV4 and Honda CRV!
- Strong brand loyalty
- Mazda is known for 5 things:
- 1) Exceptional fit and finish, 2) reliability and 3) Driving dynamics, 4) Interior quality, 5) affordability!
- Mazda is punching above its weight class and winning!
- Mazda hasn’t gone all in on hybridizing their lineup! Which is serving them well.
- People are buying Mazdas and choosing to keep them longer, unlike new Toyotas, Fords and Hondas.
- Prices have remained bearable… Mazdas has chose to keep profit margins lower with tariffs at play. Keeping loyal customers!
- Mazda has a much smaller dealer network within the U.S. especially compared to the giants like GM, Ford, and Toyota.
- Mazda has strong brand perception within U.S. but doesn’t even stack anywhere close to the top 10 auto makers in terms of volume.
- They’re not a budget brand like Kia Or Mitsubishi… not a powerhouse like Toyota or Honda.
- Problem is, SUV sales are taking a huge setback in 2026… which could prove hugely detrimental for a brand that relies heavily on their suv sales (90%+).
- Mazda has been stuck in the middle between brands like Toyota and Honda… and historically more affordable brands like Hyundai and Kia.
- Mazda might just be the most underrated brands in America… but that’s changing fast!
SUBARU
- Subaru built one of the most loyal customer bases in America! And for good reason.
- saw the smallest MSRP price hikes since the pandemic! 28% on average
- 643K sales in 2025!
- Toyota sold about 2.5M (4x Subaru) and Honda sold 1.4M (2x Subaru) but it’s not about the numbers.
- It’s more about brand perception, customer loyalty and ownership retention.
- People are staying true to Subaru, unlike Toyota and Honda. People are buying Subarus and keeping them for much longer compared to new Toyota buyers.
- Brand loyalty is unparalleled in some locations such as the Pacific Northwest, Colorado, and Northeast.
- The Crosstrek, Forester, and Outback are leading the pack for Subaru…
- Crosstrek sold 191K units in 2025
- Forester sold 175K units
- Outback sold 157K units
- Subaru sells lifestyle combined with capability… reliability ratings have only gone up and up in recent years. Especially since the brand fixed their notorious head gasket issues.
- Much like Mazda… Subaru hadn’t focused much on hybrid options!
- SUV sales are carrying the brand too… with the Impreza and Legacy declining heavily in popularity.
- Subaru has the AWD advantage!
The car market is turning on itself, seeing Subaru and Mazda thrive over brands like Toyota and Honda is living proof! What say you? Would you buy a Subaru or Mazda over Toyota or Honda in 2026? What are you local dealers doing right now? Are they selling or collecting dust?
