It’s not going to be shocking to you to hear that inflation and the resulting cost of living crisis have pushed a lot of family budgets to their limit, but unfortunately for a lot of companies, that’s started to become a problem for them too.
If people simply can’t afford anymore, they need a new way to expand their margins quarter after quarter…
For a while the solution was maintaining prices but just reducing the quantity of the actual product so people would be forced to repeat their purchases more often.
But again over time consumers got wise to “shrinkflation” and started seeking out value brands or outlets in an attempt to stretch their budgets as far as they could…
So today a newer strategy has become popular amongst… basically anything you can spend money on.
Houses are being built with the cheapest possible materials, cars are becoming a basket for holding optional extras, fast food (which wasn’t exactly great to begin with) is now no longer cheap, or fast (or even warm) and this is to say nothing of the companies that don’t really see you as a consumer at all, but more as a product to be sold to their real customers behind the scenes…
