His lab discovered that GLP-1 drugs trigger a transient spike in IL-6, normally considered an inflammatory villain, which acts as a messenger that converts white fat cells into metabolically active brown fat cells. More surprisingly, in a clinical study of Dulaglutide-treated patients, those who upregulated IL-6 also showed elevated TERT expression, the catalytic subunit of telomerase.
