Correction at 1:50 : GDS lag refers to delays in real-time pricing and inventory updates within Global Distribution Systems (GDS), causing OTAs to display older prices. It was incorrectly mentioned as Global Data Service Lag (our bad).
Thanks to our audience, who pointed this out :)
When you book a flight on booking platforms, the price sometimes increases at the final payment page. But if you check the airline’s own app at the same time, the price may still be lower.
This happens because travel apps now earn very small commissions from airlines. To survive, they add “convenience fees.” Meanwhile, big airlines control most of the market and want customers to book directly, where they make more money from add-ons like better seats, meals, baggage, and flexible cancellations.
Airlines are even keeping some of their best deals exclusive to their own apps. So the convenience of booking through one travel app might actually be costing you extra money.
The video breaks down why this power shift is happening and shares 5 simple ways to save money the next time you book a flight.
