Topens Gate Opener

We came back to the cabin thinking spring might finally be on the way… but that didn’t last long. A brief warm-up melted some of the snow, and what it left behind was an absolute mess. The road in is now a mix of mud, deep ruts, bare spots, and still heavy snow in other areas… welcome to life in the snow belt. But that wasn’t the only surprise waiting for us. We started noticing something wasn’t right with part of our walkway… the top layer is breaking down and falling apart. Now we’re left wondering — is it from the freeze/thaw cycle? The snow? Or could it be from the salt we used? Either way… it’s not good, and now we’ve got to figure out how to fix it. We also try to get the maple syrup season started, but once again, Mother Nature has other plans. Another round of cold, snow, and ice is moving in, making everything just a little more challenging. This is what off-grid life looks like in March — unpredictable, messy, and sometimes frustrating… but we take it one day at a time and keep moving forward.
