The Baltimore Ravens had agreed to acquire Maxx Crosby, elite edge rusher and long-rumored to be a trade target for many teams, for two first round picks (in 2026 and 2027). A steep price to pay, but considering the Ravens had a massive issue at edge and generating pressure on the quarterback, it was a necessary price to pay... until it wasn't.
The Ravens did what some might call a pro gamer move: They backed out of the deal less than a day before the NFL Season would officially begin, then signed Trey Hendrickson, another elite edge rusher, in free agency for roughly the same terms Crosby was owed. It's a devious move, one that many NFL executives are pissed at Baltimore for, but it's one that has to be unfurled. We get a tale of intrigue, deception, and cunning; a move that will have ripple effects across the NFL (potentially for years).
This is the tale of Madd Maxx, may he find salvation somewhere (even if it's in Oakland).
