His yard was crazy, so I hopped out, caught him real quick, and asked if he needed any help. At first he was a little unsure, which I totally understand, but I explained that I like to find yards like this and clean them up for free, do all the edging, the mowing, and help get it back to a manageable state. We talked for a bit and he mentioned the backyard wasn’t in great shape either, so I told him I could take care of that too, no charge, and while he appreciated it, he wasn’t sure about the timing. I didn’t have time to do it right then, so I told him I could come back the next morning, but he said he might try to cut it himself that evening and would text me if he didn’t get to it. About thirty minutes later, I got that text, so I came back the next morning and got started. This one had a lot going on, a front sidewalk, a curb, a long driveway that all needed edging, and then out back the grass was so tall it was covering things completely, including a fire pit and chairs that you literally couldn’t even see before. Once everything was cleaned up and opened back up, the yard felt totally different. When I showed him the finished result, he was genuinely excited and kept thanking me, saying he didn’t even know how to repay me, and I told him the same thing I always do, just pay it forward when you can.
