The gaming consumer is now the lowest priority in the entire memory supply chain. Gartner, the authority on tech forecasting, announced in February 2026 that soaring memory costs are about to fundamentally alter the market. Worldwide PC shipments are projected to drop 10.4% this year, the steepest contraction in over a decade. Combined DRAM and SSD prices are set to surge by 130%, forcing average PC prices up by 17%. As Ranjit Atwal from Gartner puts it, we are witnessing a contraction that will narrow the range of devices available and force us to hold onto older, vulnerable hardware for longer.
