Everyone’s brain works differently. This is neurodiversity. And some people’s brains work in a way that they may find it difficult to adapt to the expectations of their society. This is neurodivergent, aka neuro-spicy or neuro-sparkly for fun! Today we have more diagnoses, with names like Autism Spectrum Disorder, Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, Down Syndrome, Tourette Syndrome and Dyslexia. But neurodiversity and neurodivergent people have been part of humanity throughout history. While it is impossible to diagnose someone posthumously, there are several prominent historic figures whom historians have observed display characteristics of neuro-divergence. And who modern neuro-divergent people find they can relate to. Today let’s meet 6 royals and nobles from history who were likely neuro-divergent, and 1 modern future Queen who has been open about her diagnosis and experience.
Henry III, King of England may have had Autism Spectrum Disorder
Gaspar de Guzmán, Count-Duke of Olivares may have had Tourette Syndrome
Hugh Blair, Laird of Borgue may have had Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Empress Elisabeth of Austria may have had Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, or ADHD
Prince John of the United Kingdom may have had Autism Spectrum Disorder
Princess Alexandrine of Prussia had Down Syndrome
Victoria, Crown Princess of Sweden has Dyslexia and Prosopagnosia
