Spring is here and I am finally back to the straw bale house build. In this video I'm checking in on my foundation after a few months away - reinforcing the framing, adding stakes, and making sure everything is solid before I move forward. I'm also filling in my berry patch (oops) and covering my straw bales to protect them heading into the season.
I'm building this home entirely by myself — a 1,200 square foot, two bedroom, one bath straw bale house on my off-grid desert acreage. No crew, no contractors, just me figuring it out one day at a time. This video gives a real, honest look at what solo off-grid building actually looks like, the setbacks, the progress, and why I wouldn't have it any other way.
If you're curious about straw bale construction, off-grid homesteading, or what it looks like to build your own home from scratch in the high desert, you're in the right place.
