In this video, I invited a group of students aged 16–19 from the Linz International School Auhof in Austria to listen to The Beatles’ 1963 debut album, Please Please Me, from start to finish — many of them for the very first time. No playlists. No skipping. Just the full album as it was originally intended to be heard. While the record played, the students made notes on their first impressions — the songs they liked, the ones that surprised them, and how this 63-year-old music sounded to ears raised on modern streaming and contemporary pop. This is the first episode in a new series exploring how The Beatles’ music connects with younger listeners today. Over the coming months, we’ll return to the same group of students as we move through other albums in the original UK catalogue and see how their reactions evolve as the band’s music develops.
