In December 2022, University of Idaho professor Rebecca Scofield filed a defamation lawsuit against Ashley Guillard, also known as the "TikTok Psychic," after Guillard began posting over 100 videos on TikTok accusing Scofield of murdering the four Idaho University students famously murdered by Bryan Kohberger. Scofield won the liability phase for defamation against Guillard, and the case went to trial so a jury could decide how much Guillard needed to pay Scofield in damages. Guillard chose to represent herself, and the result was disastrous. In February 2026, a jury awarded Scofield $10 million in damages between both compensatory and punitive damages.
