Today, almost nobody remembers it. But in the early 1900s, Nichols, Florida was build as a company town for the booming phosphate industry. Hundreds of people lived and worked here, producing fertilizer that supported farms across America. But during the Cold War, this quiet industrial town became connected to something much bigger - uranium extraction tied to the U.S. nuclear program. The facility was later dismantled. The story was mostly erased. And the town slowly faded away. In this video, I explore what’s left of the Nichols plant - from massive abandoned processing plants to offices that still look like they were left behind overnight - and uncover the hidden history of a place that went from feeding crops...to fueling the atomic age.
