From video: DIY True Color Analyzer using ESP32 and AS7265x Spectroscopy Sensor
Published: January 27, 2026

Video Description

𝗢𝗿𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗣𝗖𝗕 𝗮𝘁 𝟭$ 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗙𝗿𝗲𝗲 𝗦𝗵𝗶𝗽𝗽𝗶𝗻𝗴: https://www.allpcb.com/activity/one-dollar-campaign/?code=PT18 𝗔𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗩𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗼: In this video, I’m demonstrating a DIY Smart Colorimeter built using the AS7265x Triad Spectroscopy Sensor from SparkFun and an ESP32 microcontroller. The AS7265x is a powerful 18-channel spectroscopy sensor capable of measuring light across the visible, UV, and near-infrared spectrum. Using this sensor, we create a Colorimeter, also known as a True Color Analyzer, that can accurately detect and analyze colors. In this demo, I generate different colors using a mobile RGB Color App and place the phone screen near the sensor. On the computer screen, you can see the same color being displayed and updated live through a real-time ESP32 webserver dashboard. The device continuously captures spectral data and converts it into easy-to-read RGB (0–255) and HEX color values, making color visualization simple and intuitive. This project works as a portable scientific tool for colorimetry, spectral fingerprinting, and general optical monitoring—perfect for electronics hobbyists, students, and optical engineering enthusiasts. The entire system is designed on a custom PCB board and is based on the ESP32 microcontroller, along with a battery charging IC, a buck-boost converter, and other active and passive components for stable and portable operation. I’ll be discussing all of these hardware and software details step by step in this series. For now, let’s get started and explore how this Smart Colorimeter works!
