Winter camping on Vancouver Island usually means rain, but this time, it meant ice. We spent two nights pushing our Jeeps to the Northwest tip of the island, battling sub-zero temperatures to reach Gooding Cove—one of the most beautiful remote beaches on the coast. The trip started with a supply run to Smith & Lee in Campbell River before hitting the trails in the dark. We navigated slick mossy forests, climbed through the snow line at elevation, and dropped down through thick fog to find the ocean.
